The Big Picture - Why Build the Network; Our Hopes for 2012

Why build the Network?

Even as UUs work for justice in our local and global communities, UUs are aware that there exist opportunities to do more, more effectively, if we can come together, learn from each other, and support each others' efforts, regionally.

In the past, working across congregations was challenged by the physical distances separating UUs, by the limitations of phone and mail technologies, and by limited information regarding which justice issues were being addressed by the individual UUs and their congregations in our neighboring towns and states.  However, modern social networking offers the possibility of instantly publishing resource materials, of sharing information feeds with other justice (and UU) organizations, and of easy planning, calendaring and member notifications. Coupled with periodic in-person meetings and events, such capabilities can transform how we as UUs pursue our justice passions, especially if we coordinate our efforts.  This is a future that many UUs envision and desire. Yet no group has stepped forward to build the programmatic and organizational infrastructure to support this level of coordination among UUs. The founders of the Northwest UU Justice Network are stepping in to fill this gap;  we invite you to join us!

Our Hopes for 2012

Our goal in the next year is to transform what are now a few pilot projects into a fast growing, regional Network.  During 2012, we will move beyond visioning to discover, through action and feedback, how we can effectively address the needs of the UUs we serve. Learn more about how we will do that by clicking HERE and viewing our 3-year plan.  You'll see our plan for 2012, flanked by a history of the work we are undertaking this year (2011) and by preliminary plans for the following year (2013).

As the needs of UUs working for Justice are better revealed and the implications for our programs emerge, we will adjust this plan to better support the UUs we serve.  By supporting these UU justice workers, we advance their justice work.  By advancing UU justice work, we bring more justice to the wider world.
