Call to Action: Support the Black Prisoners' Caucus Last Updated on 2017-06-16 01:39:50 The Black Prisoner's Caucus has asked supporting organizations and people of conscience to stand up to defend the Taking Education and Creating History (TEACH) program that has existed at Clallum Bay Corrections Center in Washington State for the last four years. TEACH is a university that was created by and for prisoners. Their teaching philosophy is one that moves at the pace of the slowest, and having each one teach one. The program has awarded 700 certificates of completion to participating students and awarded over 400 college credits. The program has reduced the amount of violent infractions by their participants by 99%, non-violent infractions by 88.4% and minor infractions by 83.4% (based on a survey of 60 participants conducted by the Black Prisoner's Caucus earlier this year). Love Resists: Online Joint Initiative to Resist Hate Speech and Xenophobia Last Updated on 2017-05-10 16:21:13 Love Resists!   In January, the UUA and UUSC began an unprecedented level of collaboration to support a growing movement to resist hate speech and xenophobic policy actions at local, state, and national levels, fed by the Trump administration's dangerous and immoral policy agenda. Since then, thousands of individuals, congregations, and organizations have joined by adding their names to the "Declaration of Conscience," kick-starting the first phase in our recently named joint initiative, Love Resists. Over the past three months, that effort has continued to grow. Love Resists is now nearly 15,000 strong, and includes individuals and groups from all 50 states, as well as across the globe.
