OUR WORK (First Nations)

"Love Resists" is headed for New Orleans at G.A. - Are You?

Love Resists was created to translate our Unitarian Universalist values into action, to resist the criminalization of our neighbors and communities, and create a safer, more just, welcoming, and sustainable world.  As we continue in this work together, we’re excited to meet with  you next week in New Orleans at the UUA General Assembly.

Here are ways you can connect with Love Resists while we’re together at GA!

  • Stop by the UUSC Action Center booth to take a selfie and show the world how your #LoveResists!
  • Join us for the Public Witness: #LoveResists Rejoicing for Sanctuary & Solidarity. We’ll be at Mississippi River Heritage Park on Friday, 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. for a faithful and festive call to action! Deepen your connection to Love Resists and bring resources back to your congregation. You can also join from wherever you are on the Love Resists website! The livestream should start at about 5:20 p.m. (CT).
  • Celebrate human rights with the 2017 Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Human Rights Leadership recipient, Linda Sarsour, at the UUSC Awards Gala on Saturday, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the St. Charles Ballroom, Hilton Riverside, 2 Poydras Street. RSVP to reserve your spot!
  • Attend a Love Resists workshop. We will be providing information and resources to people of all ages at over 15 workshops during GA. A full list is available on our website, but some highlights are:

#337 Activate Joyful Witness: Joyful Witness: Art & Activism
Friday, 3:15 – 4:30 pm, CC 217-219 (Youth Caucus Room)
How can we renew our spirits while confronting injustice? With guest artists and activists, we’ll explore some inspiring examples, get crafty together, and prepare to bring spirited presence to Public Witness.

#431 Bringing it Home: Powerful Organizing
Saturday, 3:15 p.m. – 4:30 p.m., CC R02-R03
This highly interactive final workshop will provide a space for you (or your team) to strategize next steps in order to bring Love Resists to life at home.

  • Get one-on-one support during an Organizing, Coaching, and Strategy Session. Are you and your congregation organizing locally around sanctuary and solidarity, or want to start? Stop by the UUSC booth to sign up for a 40-minute conversation with an organizer from Love Resists--we’ve held some spots open just in case!

Don’t forget to check in on the UUA Mobile App at the Love Resists booth UUSC or UUA locations, or at the Friday public witness event, to earn the Love Resists virtual badge!

You can find a full rundown of ways that we can learn, connect, and plan for action during our time together on the Love Resists blog.

See you soon!
