Support De-Escalate Washington Initiative - Signatures Urgently Needed: December 2017 Deadline

Police recently killed two Washington women and their unborn babies. Both women had other children. Both were people of color. They are just two of over 20 people killed so far this year. At this rate twice as many will die in 2017 as in previous years.

We URGENTLY NEED YOU to support WA State Initiative 940, De-Escalate Washington. This initiative will reduce police killings by requiring that

  • police get more and better training in de-escalation, interaction with people in mental health crisis, and first aid;
  • police immediately give first aid after shooting a person;
  • the law on use of deadly force be revised to remove existing de facto immunity; and
  • investigations of use of deadly force be independent and include community members.

We ask that congregations organize a signature gathering effort and that the lead person contact us so we can ensure you have what you need. If your congregation cannot do this, please contact us individually. Signature gathering is a crucial need, but there are also other ways to support this life-saving initiative. We must get 340,000 signatures before the end of December. Please help us do it. With You for Justice.
