The Road to Nickelsville (2016, 46 min.) is a documentary that investigates the circumstances that lead to homelessness using the stories of six homeless people living in the one of Seattle's tent cities, Nickelsville. The camp takes its name from the city mayor holding office during the time period the camp was first established. The six interviews depict people whose lives, for one reason or another, took a sudden turn and they no longer had the resources to put a permanent roof over their heads nor, in some cases, their children's. The interviews inform us about the physical and psychological stresses involved in being homeless and about being handicapped by not having a permanent address or easy access to laundry facilities, for example, elements often required for finding and holding jobs. The director of this locally-made film, Derek McNeill, will be present to talk about the homeless people he has met and about those who presented their stories in his film. Come learn more about homelessness in Seattle and in the city's NE quadrant, and what responses are being made.

Join us for the film's showing. It's FREE and open to the public! Donations to defray cost of screening rights gladly accepted. Doors open at 6:30 P.M. The film begins at 7:00 P.M with a facilitated community discussion to follow.
